DUROLANE
Durolane is a single-injection hyaluronic acid treatment. The treatment is formulated to treat pain associated with knee osteoarthritis. The treatment is ideal for patiens who have failed to respond to other conservative non-pharmacological treatments. Durolane treatments are based on a natural, safe and proven technology called NASHA. The gel holds a high level of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring molecule, which provides among other lubrication in a normal and healthy joint. When Durolane is injected into joints, affected by osteoarthritis disease, it works as an immediate pain reliever, while improving the joint function. A PROVEN TECHNOLOGY CALLED NASHA
- Durolane is a single injection for osteoarthritis pain relief based on the unique technology called NASHA. NASHA is an advanced, patented process of hyaluronic acid, which is produced without using any animal-sourced materials. The NASHA process uses bacterial fermentation followed by a purification process, to obtain natural hyaluronic acid with a high degree of purity. The molecular stabilization of the NASHA process increases the residence time of hyaluronic acid, which normally has a very short half-life in the joint. This contributes to a longer-lasting effect and resists breakdown. Durolane is the only hyaluronic acid treatment for osteoarthritis that is based on NASHA technology.
“Durolane has improved the lives of more than one million people worldwide.”

WHAT IS OSTEOARTHRITIS?
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a very common degenerative joint disease that results from a breakdown of the joint cartilage and the underlying bone. Usually, the symptoms develop slowly over years. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people worldwide, mostly older people, but can also affect adults of any age.
A joint is where two bones come together. The ends of these bones are covered with a protective tissue called cartilage. In cases of OA, this cartilage breaks down, which causes the bones within the joint to rub together. This can cause pain, stiffness, and other symptoms that can be very painful and affect the patient’s flexibility and mobility.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID AND HOW DOES IT HELP TO TREAT OSTEOARTHRITIS?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural molecule produced in the body. It is an important component of the joint fluid (synovial fluid), which helps the joints to move easily and freely while absorbing the shock during activity. In a healthy joint, the joint fluid helps to protect bones and other joint tissues from injury and disease. HA has a variety of uses and is also used in serums, injections, and other aesthetical treatments, where it acts as a moisturizer, keeping tissues hydrated. Hyaluronic acid has several functions in the joint, including:
- Lubrication: Hyaluronic acid binds well to water, producing a viscous consistency around the joints. This viscous fluid provides lubrication and acts as a shock absorber within the joint.
- Growth of cartilage and bone: HA supports the growth and development of the joint’s cartilage and bone by promoting the growth of new cells and tissues.
- Reduce inflammation: Hyaluronic acid can play an important role when it comes to reducing joint inflammation and pain caused by injury or tissue degeneration.
The hyaluronic acid in our joint tissues is continuously broken down and replaced over time. When the hyaluronic acid is broken down faster than it is naturally replaced in the joint tissues, the progression of OA begins. Over time, the cartilage on the surface of the joint will begin to damage, which can cause pain and stiffness in the joints.
When using hyaluronic acid treatments like Durolane, a high concentration of HA is injected to help reduce inflammation and restore the levels of HA to maintain the normal fluid balance and joint function. Furthermore, it helps to relieve the pain in the affected joints.
